Our Theme: Showing Hospitality: An Exploration of Christian Welcome

As Christians, we are called to “Welcome the Stranger” and practice other acts of mercy. What does Scripture teach us about ministering to others through hospitality and how do we put that into practice in our day-to-day lives, individually , in our communities and in the world?

ADULT CURRICULUM: Draw the Circle Wide: An Exploration of Christian Hospitality by Kathy Harvey Nelson, et al
Journey together to explore the question, "What does kin-dom hospitality look like?” In the adult curriculum, Draw the Circle Wide: An Exploration of Christian Hospitality, participants will explore what it means to pursue spiritual hospitality as it is presented in the Bible.
Participants will learn what it means to become people who participate in the warm welcome of God to the world by examining the type of welcome that has been provided by people of faith throughout time. This spiritual welcome, or spiritual hospitality, extends to all creation—plants, animals, oceans, rivers, and humanity—each valued by God and created with both needs and gifts. It extends to ourselves as well, even though we are often the last people we think to treat with care, compassion, and grace. This type of spiritual hospitality is part of the joyful work we accept as we strive to live kin-dom lives.
Eight explorations rooted in Scripture will guide participants through different facets of hospitality, leading them to a deeper understanding of not only what spiritual hospitality looks like today, but also their personal call to live it out in their communities.

YOUTH CURRICULUM: Christian Hospitality Is So Worth It . . . Even When by M. Garlinda Burton
Christian Hospitality Is So Worth It . . . Even When invites youth to discover a faith that reaches beyond kindness and comfort into the transformative practice of radical welcome. Rooted in Scripture and inspired by the example of Jesus, this eight-session curriculum challenges young people to reconsider what hospitality truly means.
Many of us think of hospitality as entertaining guests, creating comfortable spaces, or making others feel at home. In Scripture, strangers were welcomed, resources were shared sacrificially, and barriers between “us” and “them” were dismantled in the name of God’s love. Such hospitality can feel risky, inconvenient, and even unsettling in today’s world.
Through biblical storytelling, interactive activities, meaningful discussion prompts and videos, and opportunities for personal reflection, youth will explore what it means to practice courageous compassion, challenge injustice, and build communities where everyone belongs.
Christian hospitality is not always easy. It stretches us beyond what is familiar and safe. But as this curriculum reminds us, Christian hospitality is so worth it . . . even when.

CHILDREN’S CURRICULUM: God's Big Table by Margaret Frazier
In God's Big Table, children experience giving and receiving hospitality as they prepare for a banquet. Author Margaret Frazier uses the metaphor of a banquet table where people who were once divided sit side by side, welcomed into an abundant feast.
God's Big Table brings Scripture to life through imagination, conversation, and shared experience in eight sessions. As participants build their own banquet table-adding symbols of welcome, joy, and provision each week-they discover that hospitality is more than an act; it is a way of being.
Rich with hands-on activities, faithful storytelling, and space for reflection, God's Big Table invites readers of all ages to consider: What does it mean to prepare a place for others? And how might we live as people who are always ready to welcome?
